Service-Learning conference in Italy

On November 5th, the Libera Università Maria Santissima Assunta (LUMSA), located in Vatican City, organized the Conference "Che cos’è il Service Learning? Teoria ed esperienze di un modo innovativo di fare scuola" (What is Service-Learning? Theories and experiences of an innovative way to build the school).
The Conference was led by Roser Batlle (ESADE – Barcelona) and Carina Rossa (CLAYSS) along with projects and experiences presented by students from LUMSA.
The Conference was organized by the professor Italo Fiorini, lecturer and director of the Education Sciences career at LUMSA. It was open for PhD students from the Humanities Department and the entire community of the universitity, gathering a full auditorium all through the day long activities.

 

CLAYSS at the 1st Latin American Social Responsibility, University and Democracy Sessions

To commemorate the 30 year anniversary of Argentina’s return to democracy, and to wrap up capacity building and project development activities conducted by the University Social Responsibility department throughout the year, the National Technological University (UTN) organized the First Latin American Social Responsibility, University and Democracy Sessions in San Miguel de Tucumán (Tucumán, Argentina). A hundred university professors and Latin American specialists participated of these activities. Panel speakers included Astrid Fischel Volio (former Vice President of Costa Rica), François Vallaeys (ORSALC-UNESCO) and Nieves Tapia (Director of CLAYSS) who was distinguished as “illustrious visitor” by the Dean on the UTN’s Tucuman Regional Campus.

Talloires Network

It has been recently announced the 2014 Talloires Network Leaders Conference will take place from December 2 to 4 in Cape Town, South Africa. In this opportunity the Conference –which takes place once every two years- will be co-sponsored by SAHECEF(South African Higher Education Community Engagement Forum) and organized in alliance with the Cape Higher Education Consortium (CHEC). It will be the first global Leaders Conference to take place in the Southern Hemisphere and, as usual, it is expected participation of university presidents and leaders engaged in university social commitment and service-learning will be high.   • February 10-14: 9th International Higher Education Conference, in La Habana, Cuba. This edition’s motto will be “for a socially responsible university” and will discuss the university’s social calling as a conduit for culture and values. http://www.congresouniversidad.cu/

  • September 15-20: 23rd IAVE World Volunteer Conference & Youth Conference, Gold Coast, Australia: Organized by the International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE), it hopes to gather more than 1000 representatives under the motto “Volunteering, Today’s Imperative”.
