Publication about solidarity project by Uruguayan students
In 2015, the Environmental Education Project carried out by students of Liceo Dr. Miguel Rubino de Durazno was awarded in the Solidarity Education Contest. The report revealed that in different places in Durazno an excess of artificial lighting caused light pollution. The students, with the support of Astronomy Professor Carlos Fariello, were able to prove that this phenomenon was present in several public places in the town, which caused a significant decrease in the quality of the sky visibility. Thanks to this experience, they were able to raise awareness in their community about the inappropriate use of lighting and its negative consequences for the environment.
The experience was compiled throughout its development and this led to the decision to produce a book that would account for the work done by the students. Thus the book "Light pollution" was created. A school research project written by Prof. Fariello with the support of Liceo Miguel Rubino and CLAYSS Uruguay headquarters. The book was presented on November 30th at the educational institution, in recognition of the students' work and the closure of the work process. |
