2018 Activities in Uruguay
CLAYSS has not yet succeeded in ensuring the continuity of funding for the Program for the Promotion of Service-Learning in Uruguay as it was developed in the three-year period 2015-2017. For this reason, the support programme for educational centres has been temporarily interrupted. However, we will continue to be in contact with all the institutions.
We will also continue to carry out the actions agreed with the Uruguayan education authorities, who have been very favourable to the continuation of the proposal in the meetings held between February and March. Among others, it will continue the service-learning course that has been offered for the last four years on the EDUMEC platform. |

Project in Jujuy Province: service-learning in the Arts
Since 2013, the Art Secondary School No. 49 in Tilcara, Jujuy, has developed workshops for the construction and restoration of ancestral musical instruments, in which the young people of the school participate in solidarity activities, building and repairing the instruments of the "sikuris" (native flutes) bands that are well intertwined with the traditions and festivals of the local communities and sharing their knowledge in workshops with students from other schools. The project aims to preserve the rich and ancient Coya culture, and build bridges between the ancient native Luthiers and the new generation.
During 2017, the institution undertook on-site training and technical assistance. With the help of the Municipality of Tilcara and the support of CLAYSS through the Support Program for Solidarity Educational Institutions "Service Learning in the Arts", a room was built at the end of 2017 close to the institution to be used specifically as a classroom for learning, construction and reparation of instruments, since the students had more than one opportunity to do these tasks outdoors
They are currently planning an activity to accompany the Virgin on the hill that is part of the local traditions. |
