Uruguayan Solidarity Schools News

As a result of the Project ¨EntrebichitosMEN¨, the School 319 ´República Popular China´ of Casavalle -one of the winners of the Solidarity Education Contest 2017 held in Uruguay-, managed to fulfill the dream of setting up a cooperative for the production of bio inputs and today has legal status approved by the MEC of Uruguay. You can watch a video of the experience here.
In addition, the project on light pollution in cities, developed by astronomy students at the Rubino de Durazno Lyceum, continues to receive recognition. In addition to the publication of a book on the experience in 2017, it will be presented at the 30th International Astronomy Assembly in Vienna in August.
This project was the winner of the Solidarity Education Contest 2015. The work revealed that in different parts of Durazno an excess of artificial lighting caused light pollution. The students, with the support of Astronomy Professor Carlos Fariello, were able to prove that this phenomenon occurred in several public places in the town, which caused a significant decrease in the quality of the sky visibility.
