2018 "Solidarity Education" Award Ceremony in Uruguay

The event was attended by students and teachers, education authorities. We were accompanied by the Director of CLAYSS Prof. Nieves Tapia, the Director of Interim Education of MEC José Mignone, the Councillor of CODICEN Laura Motta, the Director of CEIP Irupé Buzzetti, the Councillor of CEIP Pablo Caggiani, Martín Nuin Coordinator of El Chajá and the Ambassador of Argentina in Uruguay Mario Barletta. Sandra Rodriguez from OEI Uruguay was unable to attend due to agenda items but left all of us with warm greetings and congratulations.
Professor Nieves Tapia, Director of CLAYSS recalled the sustained work of CLAYSS in Uruguay since 2002 together with the CVU, thanked the opportunity to work together with the educational system in Uruguay with the Promotion Program of the SL from 2015, a program that will continue until 2021.
The authorities present highlighted the shared work and promoted to continue deepening the dissemination of this pedagogical proposal that gives such good results, not only in the schools themselves, but in the protagonists students, teachers and communities.
The objectives of the competition are:
-To recognize the Educational Institutions that best integrate the curricular learning of students with solidarity actions aimed at improving the quality of life in their community.
-Recognize educational solidarity experiences that allow students to broaden their learning horizon and engage in the transformation of their community along with other social actors.
-Strengthen and disseminate a culture of participation, solidarity and civic commitment.
43 projects of Educational Centers of CEIP, CES, CETP, CFE and Non-Formal Education Centers of MEC programs and Civil Society Organizations from 12 departments and 36 localities of the country.
All the centres that presented themselves to the Competition will have a technical return of their projects and the possibility of carrying out a free course by EduMEC on the Pedagogical Proposal of the SL in 2019. At the same time, the different programs of the Directorate of Education will advise projects that address issues related to the programs of that Directorate: National Reading Plan, Education and Tic, Environmental Education, Education and Art, Chess for Coexistence, Education in Human Rights and Planting is Culture.
Sixteen awards were presented. The 12 Prizes and the 3 Career Prizes will receive $13,000 Uruguayan pesos each and 1 special mention that will receive $ 5000 pesos.
We share a summary of the projects of the awarded Institutions:
SPECIAL MENTION OF THE NETWORK OF RURAL SCHOOLS.
Rural Schools: N° 13 Aguas Buenas, N° 63 Cuchilla del Rincón and N° 70 Barrancas Coloradas of the Department of Durazno.
"CRECE DESDE EL PIE" is a joint project of the Rural Grouping "Las abejas laboriosas". It focuses on the work in Organic Vegetable Garden, revaluing the work with the land from a collaborative and cooperative proposal in permanent contact with nature. With this experience, they bet that the children can, from their enthusiasm and commitment, help their families to generate positive changes in their daily habits and that the essence of the rural school is in the work of the land, where nature provides the resources to develop significant learning. The implementation of this project aims to enrich and reaffirm the eating habits of children and their families, as well as develop skills, abilities and life experiences. The experience is replicated in each of the students' homes, where each family produces its own food and joins the organization of a Cooperative managed by housewives.
TRAJECTORY AWARDS
Rural School N° 88 of Las Violetas, Canelones.
Recognition is given to the sustained work in the areas of waste treatment and classification, research into the quality of local water and its low level of sanitation, the promotion of a healthy community in rural areas, aiming at environmental education through coordinated actions between students, teachers and the community. These actions are expanded to the departmental capital of Canelones with the donation and placement of containers for the classification of waste in public spaces.

Aeroparque Community FPB of the Technical School of Colonia Nicolich. La Esperanza Civil Association, Department of Canelones.
Because " Aeroparque belongs to everyone ", the students decided four years ago to generate solidarity actions for the neighborhood, an initiative that has been sustained. The community is an active participant in this experience, networks are generated with the Mayor's Office, the Organization "Todos por la educación" and the population of Aeroparque. Initially, the population needs to generate the nomenclature of the neighborhood, after a space for recreation and meeting in which everyone can participate. Wooden games are built for the school square. The following year the students continue working to complete the square, a space valued by the entire community. This allows the students to continue being protagonists in their own community and managers of proposals. This year they are attending to the issue of the garbage dump formation in the neighborhood. Each year more groups of students and teachers of the FPB of Carpentry, Construction and Gastronomy are involved.
CECAP-Salto
In the Project ¨Experiencia of stimulation and beauty games for children and mothers who are in the Unit N° 20 of Salto of the National Institute of Rehabilitation.¨ The students elaborated toys of recycled materials for the early stimulation for children and moved the beauty salon to the Unit 20 of the INR generating game, beauty and learning opportunities. This institution has been working in a sustained and systematic way in this pedagogical methodology, through different proposals that involve the students and the target community.

Non-Formal Education
MEC Centre in the town of Miguelete - Department of Colonia.
The project "Families building vegetable gardens", the proposal is to create a community support network, to acquire knowledge and implementation of vegetable gardens in different homes, thus producing their own food, and the opportunity for a job opportunity by selling seedlings and products through promotion in the community. This project is carried out jointly with the local Liceo, as an ally in the proposal.
Council of Initial and Primary Education
School N°9 of Cardona -Soriano.
The monthly ¨revista escolar¨ of the School has communicative purposes. This material is accessible through the school blog, and is also sent in paper format to institutions in the middle (waiting rooms of medical offices, homes for the elderly, schools in the area, families, children's club, CAIF, Liceo, UTU) so that all people are informed on different topics, but also to encourage reading at all ages. It includes spaces for scientific dissemination and research, thinking of those everyday problems that present themselves to people and that arise within the community.

School No. 175 Casavalle People's Republic of China, Montevideo.
The "Entrebichos" Project develops educational activities for children, youth and adults, mainly on the production of Native Efficient Microorganisms (MEN), through cooperativism and associative work. It has a strong pedagogical, productive, scientific and community imprint. It aims to reach an older population without age limits and where all the different dimensions of work can be deployed: educational, sociocommunity, productive and scientific. It has its main base in Borro Neighborhood where the School is located, it also has a small Bioinputs plant in San Jacinto.

Board of Secondary Education
Liceo Nº47 of La Teja de Montevideo.
The project is not only a radio program but is made by the students and includes everything related to their interests (music, reading, sports, news, etc.), motivates close contact with all kinds of institutions within and outside the neighborhood. The Program, among other things, informs and promotes projects of the institution itself and others; it researches, participates and disseminates culture from other countries. With the aim of forming critical, thinking beings with the capacity to present and inform, it encourages a sense of belonging to the community and broadens the horizons of the students and multipliers with the rest of the students.
Liceo de San Gregorio de Polanco, department of Tacuarembó.
The project "Uniting past, present and future" through experiences, stories and collective constructions with children and adults identifies the realities of the City (its evolution throughout history, its labor sources, its cultural importance) and other key factors to understand reality and modify or improve it to achieve a better quality of life both social and cultural. It is materialized through the publication of a newspaper, it is continuity of the project of the previous year focused on the diffusion of tourist information, from an integrating approach is promoted local development.

Liceo N°1 de Sauce, Canelones.
The "Feria Infantil y Juvenil Sauceña", this year in the 4th consecutive edition. It is installed in the square and in the Artigas Cultural Center, promoting the democratization of culture with free workshops, talks by writers and a walk through the book fair. In this event the students participate in a wide range of activities: organization, assembly, animation and guides of the different institutions that visit it taking a leading role.

Tacuarembó Superior Technical School. (FPB) of Carpentry
In the "1 Toy 1 Smile" project, wooden toys were built for children undergoing medical treatment at the Ronald McDonald House in the local hospital. These activities have been carried out for two consecutive years, allowing them to approach children hospitalized for prolonged treatment and their families from different areas of the department, especially rural areas. In addition, they develop playful and recreational activities and language stimulation with storytelling.
Young Technical School, department of Río Negro
The project ¨Zona verde social¨, developed tables and benches in a green space that is used by the community, especially young people and adolescents. It is aimed at the population of Young, having as a priority to strengthen knowledge in the discipline and approach to the community.

Agrarian School of Vergara, Department of Treinta y Tres
¨Los agrarios and its Educational Solidarity Days. Sembrando Conciencia Ecológica¨. By strengthening issues related to natural and healthy food, returning to the garden in each family home, promoting healthy practices, by retaking the culture of self-cultivation to encourage intake of self-cultivated products, not damaging the environment, and by considering the customs of our grandparents to cultivate the land, and the production of organic fertilizers in schools. The students work in the fields, growing vegetables and fruits with the children of the Primary Schools. The monthly tasks in the educational centers culminate with days of recreational ludic integration with the participation of the families, in continuity of SL Projects of previous years.

Education Training Council
Teacher Training Institute of Rosario, Department of Colonia.
By means of the project "Traces in the Pastoral Care", giving continuity to the project from the previous year, negotiations are carried out with the Municipality to provide public transport to this zone that is 4km away from the city center. In addition, academic activities (narrations), plastic (wall painting with emblematic motif) and recreational activities (game boards on the floor) are carried out with the students of the neighborhood School. Workshops with older adults on the theme "The Carnival", working across the Human Rights.

Florida Teacher Training Institute.
"Weaving intergenerational networks", an experience that is developed through weekly visits to the "Florida Home for the Elderly". These activities bring the elderly closer to technology, using different resources (cell phones, tablets, audiovisual devices). The teacher training students are the guides to achieve learning, planning diverse activities in which the use of technologies is integrated. At the same time, they present the project ¨Bebeteca¨, with community intervention through the first experiences of approaching reading in Early Childhood, (children from 6 months to 3 years) of the community. Through networking with the Florida Municipal Library, a creative play space was organized to bring children and their families closer to the world of images and words. There is also ¨Bebeteca móvil¨ and other spaces outside the library.

Centro Regional de Profesores del Sur "Clemente Estable" de Atlántida, Canelones.
For the collaborative work, promoting the generation of links and ties of exchange, starting from the horizontal construction of the groups through the inclusion and recreation spaces in Units N° 4 and N° 6 of the INR (National Institute of Rehabilitation). They carry out different workshops in these units, already started in 2017, promoting the development of teaching and learning experiences.

The authorities then left us with some brief and encouraging words.
