CLAYSS in Spain

From 10 to 15 December, the Director of CLAYSS, Nieves Tapia, developed an intense programme of activities in Barcelona, Madrid and Coslada. Among the main ones it is worth mentioning:

On Monday 10th she gave a conference, organized by the Consorci d'Educació de Barcelona, a joint organism of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Barcelona City Council for the educational centres of that city. Around a hundred students, teachers, civil servants and specialists took part in the meeting. The conference was opened by educational authorities and Josep María Puig, from the Catalonia Service Learning Promotion Centre, one of the pioneers in this field in Spain.

  • On Tuesday 11 December, Nieves held an interesting working day with technicians from the Consorci d'Educació and members of the Catalan ApS Promotion Centre. One of the central themes was the implementation of compulsory service-learning in Catalan educational institutions, which will come into full force in the next academic year. She also met with leaders of the international organisation EDUCO (https://www.educo.org), an international cooperation NGO at the service of education, to explore possible alliances with CLAYSS regarding the promotion of service-learning.
  • In Madrid, on 13 December, Nieves gave a conference within the framework of the III Conference on Service-Learning Training of the Complutense University, which was closed by the Vice-rector of Studies, Dr. Pilar Herreros de Tejada Macua, and the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Gonzalo Jover Olmeda.,

  • In the city of Coslada, to the north of Madrid, the 11th State Meeting on Service-Learning was held on 14 December and the 4th award ceremony of the Spanish Service-Learning Award was held. This year more than 500 teachers, students, civil servants and representatives of social organisations took part in the event. Within this framework, Nieves participated in a conference-dialogue with Juan de Vicente, educator and promoter of service-learning in Coslada.

  • On Saturday 15 December, Nieves was invited to participate in the Annual Assembly of the Spanish State Service Learning Network, made up of representatives from all the autonomous communities, which elected new authorities. Nieves was surprised to be named as the first "honorary member" of the Network.
