Director of CLAYSS named Academic at ACES

Since its foundation in 2012, ACES has incorporated outstanding researchers, academics and social leaders in the field of social commitment and responsibility in Higher Education. Among the new members selected, who will formally join the Academy in March 2020, is Nieves Tapia, CLAYSS Director. She was nominated by Academy President Burton Bagerstock (Michigan State University) and Andrew Furco, Associate Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota.
The selection letter, signed by Burton A. Bargerstock, points out, among other things: Dear Director Tapia:
(...) She has been nominated by her peers for her many years of practicing and generating models of excellence for university-community collaboration. The work she has undertaken with her allies has contributed to addressing critical issues in society and academia. It has also enabled it to generate new perspectives that we hope will continue to grow and contribute to a broader understanding of the most effective community engagement practices. We hope to get to know each other better and we are sure that your inclusion among our members will strengthen ACES. (…)
Prof. Tapia is the first Latin American to be included in the Academy. From CLAYSS we consider this distinction a deserved recognition to its trajectory, and also a timely assessment of the quality and tradition of practices, reflection and research on service-learning developed in our region.
