LATIN AMERICAN CENTER FOR SERVICE LEARNING
The Talloires Network
CLAYSS has signed an agreement of understanding with Tufts University and the North American organization Innovations in Civic Participation (ICP, www.icicp.org) in order to coordinate the Latin American branch of the Talloires Network of universities for civil commitment.
As part of the network, CLAYSS will contribute to the coordination of activities of Latin American member organization, the recruiting of new university members in the region, the formation of new materials supporting the network and the organization of a conference in Buenos Aires in 2009. The Talloires Network brings together universities from all over the world, exemplary in their dedication to forming responsible citizens and in their creation of social commitment and service-learning programs, especially in the field of literacy, and the promotion of reading and information and technology education.
This new Latin-American alliance will help to expand and enhance the Talloires Network by:
1. Strengthening civic-engagement activities undertaken by members in the region.
2. Demonstrating the impacts of civic-engagement programs.
3. Provide large-scale visibility for the member institutions of the region.
4. Distribute materials and publications in different languages.
5. Plan regional conferences, training sessions and other events.
We are currently in a very promising time in the field of civic-engagement in higher education. What is happening in Latin America is important and we hope to encourage the continuing increase of civic-engagement experiences in the region.
This alliance hopes to be an excellent initiative for regional team work
