The 15th Annual Service-Learning Conference
During the opening, Dr, Ruben Hallú, Director of the University of Buenos Aires, talked about the new requirements to graduate from UBA, which now require students to participate in at least 40 hours of service-learning projects. The Secretary of Education, Jamie Perczyk, emphasized the importance of service-learning and civic engagement for a quality and inclusive education for everyone.
Among the presenters were Juan Carlos Tedesco, who offered a presentation about scientific formation, citizenship, and service-learning, and Alicia Camilloni, who commented about the experiences of institutions that participated in the first Conference, as well as experts Roser Batlle (Catalonian Center for Service-Learning) and Katia Goncalves Mori (Catholic University of San Pablo) who presented on the challenges that service-learning will face in the future.
Numerous service-learning projects were presented by their own students and the Conference also included sessions on different themes such as “Theoretical Contributions to the Concept of Service-Learning: Community, Local Development, and Service Learning” and “Social Organizations as a Space for Service-Learning: Experiences and Reflections about Practices”.
