Solidarity Service-Learning as an educational policy in Italy
The Institute for Educational Innovation (INDIRE) of the Italian Ministry of Education published the "Guidelines for the Implementation of Service-Learning in Italy". This guide has as reference, among others, some materials published by CLAYSS, as well as the book "Educazione e solidarietà. La pedagogia dell'apprendimento-servizio", published in Italy in 2006 by Prof. Nieves Tapia. For the CLAYSS team, it is a source of great joy that Italy joins the increasingly long list of countries with Service-Learning educational policies, and we are proud to have been able to contribute something to this from Latin America. The document can be downloaded here: http://pheegaro.indire.it/uploads/attachments/1980.pdf |

Service-Learning in the Arts in Higher Education
Lenguaje Visual 3 is a class of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the National University of La Plata that is integrated by more than 30 teachers of plastic arts, design and visual communication that annually give classes to more than 500 students of different careers of the institution. Since 2009 they work articulating the pedagogy of Service-Learning with the arts with a solidary educational practice that unites illustration, plastic arts, graphic design and editorial production. The objective of the solidarity practice of the course is the production of children's books and audiovisual short films that are exclusively destined to community organizations and schools whose profile is to be regional and national institutions recognized for their social or solidarity work, with whom the course formalizes agreements through the Faculty of Fine Arts. The books are donated to these institutions without any type of profit for the Chair, for the students or for the authors of the texts.
At the end of the course, students become producers of an object that leads them to be protagonists of all stages of the graphic production of this material, contributing to improve their training as future professionals, to have a finished model that can favor their insertion into the labor market.
In their 10 years of trajectory they have made more than 4000 books and 120 audiovisual short films that work as " trailers " of each production. In 2010, they were the winners of a Jury Mention of the Presidential Prize "Educational Solidarity Practices in Higher Education" awarded by the Ministry of Education of the Nation.
They are currently participating in the second year of the Support Program for Solidary Educational Institutions "Aprendizaje-Servicio Solidario en las Artes" of CLAYSS. |
